Methodology
## What this measures
United Kingdom's imports of goods from European Union, including cost, insurance and freight (CIF), in US dollars billions per month, as reported by United Kingdom.
## Why it matters
Bilateral trade shows how exposed two economies are to each other, and how tariffs, sanctions and supply-chain shifts are redirecting goods.
## How to read it
A monthly level. Compare the same month a year earlier: trade is seasonal. The partner's own figures for the same trade (its exports) differ, because of valuation, timing and re-exports through third countries.
## What it does not say
Goods only, not services. Values are converted to US dollars by the IMF; part of a change can be the exchange rate. The newest months are revised.
