Methodology

## What this measures

The interest rate Bahamas's central bank uses to signal its monetary policy stance, as reported to the IMF, percent per year, end of month or monthly average as the country reports it.

## Why it matters

The policy rate is the main lever on borrowing costs, credit and the currency. Comparing it with inflation shows how tight policy is.

## How to read it

Percent per year. Subtract inflation for the real policy rate.

## What it does not say

Which instrument counts as "the" policy rate differs by country and has changed over time in some; the IMF uses each country's reported series.
