Methodology

## What this measures

Gross domestic product at current prices, converted to US dollars at market exchange rates, in billions. Zimbabwe.

## Why it matters

The size of an economy in dollars is what matters for its weight in trade, commodity demand and global markets.

## How to read it

A level, in billions of US dollars. It moves with the exchange rate as well as with output and prices, so a strong dollar shrinks every other economy on this measure.

Each point is one year's figure in the newest World Economic Outlook, dated December 31. The series stops the year before the WEO's own year; the IMF's forecast from there is a separate series (the same name with "IMF Projection"), so this line never mixes measured and forecast years. The newest year is often still an IMF estimate, and the whole history is revised with each edition.

## What it does not say

Not adjusted for price levels; compare living standards with GDP per capita at purchasing-power parity.
