Projected Annual Job Openings Filled by Women at Today's Mix: Retail salespersons (U.S.)
Latest
244.7thousands per year
Methodology
## What this measures
BLS's projected annual openings for retail salespersons (SOC 41-2031) (jobs.openings.retail_salespersons) multiplied by women's share of the occupation's workers in the CPS for the projection's base year (jobs.women_share.retail_salespersons), in thousands. The women and men series add to total openings. Annual since 2020.
## Why it matters
It turns a projection of openings into who would fill them if each occupation hires in the proportions it employs today, which shows where the largest pools of jobs for women and for men are.
## How to read it
Read it as arithmetic on two published numbers, not a forecast of hiring by sex. Compare women and men within an occupation, or one sex across occupations.
## What it does not say
It assumes every opening is filled in today's mix. It does not, and the mix changes slowly in many occupations. Openings include replacements for people who leave, whose sex mix can differ from the occupation's.
