Women's Share of Workers: Heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers (U.S.)
Latest
7.7% of employed
Methodology
## What this measures
Women as a percentage of everyone employed in heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers (SOC 53-3032), from the Current Population Survey of about 60,000 households, annual averages. Annual since 2020, when the survey moved to the 2018 Census occupation classification. The CPS publishes no separate row for this occupation, so the share is that of all truck drivers and driver/sales workers, a broader group.
## Why it matters
It shows who does each kind of work today. Set against projected openings, it shows which jobs will hire mostly women and which mostly men if hiring follows today's mix.
## How to read it
Compare occupations in the same year. Moves of a point or two from one year to the next are within the survey's sampling error for smaller occupations.
## What it does not say
It says nothing about pay or hours. The CPS classifies jobs by Census occupation titles, which are close to but not the same as the SOC codes the projections use. The CPS publishes no separate row for this occupation, so the share is that of all truck drivers and driver/sales workers, a broader group.
