Methodology
## What this measures
The total jobs cut in the 12 months to each month in layoffs where the company, its CEO or a regulatory filing explicitly blamed AI, automation or an AI strategy, as listed by Killed by AI. The first reading is December 2024, the first month with a full year of the list behind it. The month in progress is left out until it ends.
## Why it matters
Monthly counts jump with single announcements; the 12-month total shows whether the number of jobs employers attribute to AI is growing.
## How to read it
A large announcement lifts the total for twelve months and then drops out, so a fall a year after a spike is the spike leaving the window, not a reversal. Compare with the 12-month count of announcements (labor.ai_layoffs.killedbyai.events_12m).
## What it does not say
It counts what gets reported, not every layoff, and the list is curated by hand, so past months can change as entries are added or corrected. Counts are what the company disclosed. Companies are worldwide, mostly U.S.-listed.
