U.S. Computer Systems Design Employment

Latest

2,355.4thousands of jobs

Methodology

## What this measures

The number of payroll jobs at firms that write custom software, run IT systems and provide IT consulting.

## Why it matters

Coding is one of the tasks AI has absorbed fastest. This industry is where an early drop in demand for knowledge work would show up in the payroll count.

## How to read it

Read the 12-month change. Compare it with total payrolls and with construction (labor.ces.construction).

## What it does not say

It counts jobs at these firms, not software developers across the economy, and it can't separate AI from tech-sector cycles or interest rates.

## Source

Bureau of Labor Statistics, Current Employment Statistics, series CES6054150001 ("All Employees, Computer Systems Design and Related Services"). Palanor pulls it from the FRED API (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis) nightly. Bureau of Labor Statistics data are in the public domain.
