inflation

Denmark Inflation Rate (CPI, % y/y, OECD)

Latest

2.18% y/y

Methodology

## What this measures

The annual rate of consumer price inflation in Denmark: the percent change in the all-items consumer price index (macro.oecd.cpi.dnk) from the same month a year earlier, each month.

## Why it matters

It is the headline inflation rate central banks target and wage talks start from. On one source and one formula for every country, it lets you compare inflation across economies month by month.

## How to read it

Higher means prices are rising faster. Most advanced-economy central banks aim for about two percent. Compare countries on the same month, and watch the direction over several months rather than one print.

## What it does not say

It is the headline rate; it does not separate food and energy from core inflation. It can differ by a tenth from the rate the national statistics office publishes, because it is computed from the rounded index. A low rate does not mean prices fell, only that they rose more slowly.

## Source

Computed by Palanor from the OECD index: (CPI this month ÷ CPI a year earlier − 1) × 100. OECD, Consumer price indices (CPIs, HICPs): the COICOP 2018 dataflow (`OECD.SDD.TPS,DSD_PRICES_COICOP2018@DF_PRICES_C2018_ALL`) or, for countries the OECD has not yet moved to it, the COICOP 1999 dataflow (`OECD.SDD.TPS,DSD_PRICES@DF_PRICES_ALL`); key DNK.M.N.CPI.IX._T.N._Z (monthly, national CPI, index, all items, not seasonally adjusted). Data Explorer: https://data-explorer.oecd.org. Palanor reads it every day and keeps one dataflow for the whole series. Source: OECD.
