United States Share Prices, Change Over a Year (OECD)

Methodology
## What this measures
The percentage change in the OECD monthly share price index for United States from the same month a year earlier.
## Why it matters
The yearly change strips out the base year and lets markets be compared side by side; sustained falls have preceded recessions in most OECD economies.
## How to read it
Positive means prices are higher than a year ago. Compare with inflation and with other countries; swings of ±30% happen in volatile markets.
## What it does not say
It is the OECD's rebased copy of one broad national share price index, averaged over the month, so it misses moves within the month and won't match any month-end close. Price only: dividends are not included. It is in local currency, so it says nothing about returns to a foreign investor without the exchange rate. The OECD revises and rebases it.
