EB-5 Investor Visas: South Korea (U.S. State Dept)

Methodology

## What this measures

EB-5 immigrant visas and adjustments of status charged to South Korea each U.S. fiscal year under the fifth employment preference (immigrant investors), investors and their families together.

## Why it matters

How many people from South Korea move to the United States through investment, one read on wealthy families’ demand for U.S. residence.

## How to read it

Visas a year, by U.S. fiscal year (October to September), dated September 30. Counts every EB-5 number used: investors and their spouses and children, issued at consulates abroad or by adjustment of status inside the United States. COVID consular closures cut fiscal 2020 and 2021; the Reform and Integrity Act of 2022 paused and then restarted the regional center program, which shapes fiscal 2022.

## What it does not say

Chargeability is usually country of birth, not citizenship, so it can differ from the passport held. It counts visas and green-card numbers, not the money invested or how many investments succeeded.

## Source

U.S. Department of State, Report of the Visa Office, Table V Part 3 (fifth employment preference, "5th Total" column), fiscal years 2015 onward, https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-statistics/annual-reports.html. Public domain; citation of the Bureau of Consular Affairs appreciated. Kept in the investment_migration_people table (one row per value, with the document and table it came from) and written to this series by /api/cron/passport-reach; a new edition lands as a migration.
