Methodology
## What this measures
Official development assistance that the DAC member countries disbursed directly to developing countries for population policies and reproductive health, in US$ billions at current prices, yearly from 2002. CRS sector code 130: Population policy, reproductive health care, family planning, and the control of sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS.
## Why it matters
It shows where donor money for health goes: which diseases and services donors pay for, and how that changes when aid budgets move.
## How to read it
Disbursements are money actually paid out in the year, gross. Bilateral means given by a member country's own agencies, including money it earmarks for a specific project run by an international organisation. The sector data arrive with the OECD's final figures, so this series ends a year before the donor totals.
## What it does not say
Core contributions to multilateral funds and agencies (the Global Fund, Gavi, the WHO, the World Bank) are not here, and those carry much of the world's HIV, malaria and vaccine financing, so this understates total donor spending on these diseases. Private foundations are not included. Current dollars move with exchange rates and inflation.
