Methodology
## What this measures
The number of conflicts the Defensoría del Pueblo classes as active in the month: the parties are making public demands, through protest, dialogue processes or other collective action. From the monthly Reporte de Conflictos Sociales.
## Why it matters
Active conflicts are the ones that can stop a road, a mine or a project this month. The active count moves faster than the total and is the closer read on current disruption risk.
## How to read it
Higher means more open disputes. Compare it with the latent count: a shift from latent to active is a sign of escalation.
## What it does not say
It counts conflicts, not protests or days of disruption. Many active conflicts are in dialogue rather than in the street. A month is published only when the report's cover, summary page and tables agree.
