## What this measures

The count of travellers who passed through a TSA security checkpoint in the United States on the day.

## Why it matters

Air travel is discretionary spending and business activity measured in bodies, daily, with no survey and no revision. It is the cleanest high-frequency read on the services economy.

## How to read it

Same weekday a year earlier — the weekly rhythm is strong, and holidays move. A run of days below the prior year, outside a weather event, is the consumer pulling back.

## What it does not say

Throughput counts people, not fares. A full plane at a discount and a full plane at a premium look identical here.
