Party Identification: Republicans incl. Leaners (CES)

Methodology
## What this measures
The weighted share of U.S. adults in the Cooperative Election Study who are Republicans plus independents who say they lean Republican (pid3_leaner = 2), one reading per survey year. Percent.
## Why it matters
Party identification is how people describe their own politics, as distinct from how they are registered or how they vote. It is the standard measure of the parties' standing with the public.
## How to read it
Read the level against earlier years. Shares of the same year add to about 100 with the other categories (the rest is other parties and not sure). Use the with-leaners and without-leaners versions consistently.
## What it does not say
The CES is a large opt-in online panel (YouGov) weighted to the adult population, fielded around each November; odd years have smaller samples. The Not Sure option was not offered in every year, which moves the other shares slightly. One reading a year, not monthly.
