New Hampshire Unaffiliated and Other-Party Share of Registered Voters

Latest

35.64%

Methodology

## What this measures

The share of registered voters not enrolled in either major party: unaffiliated, no party preference, independent and minor parties in New Hampshire, as published by the New Hampshire Secretary of State in the statewide party registration history, per election and quarterly since 2023 (rows where the party columns do not add to the total, such as 1970s rows without an undeclared count or elections that add same-day registrations not broken down by party, are left out). Percent of all registered voters.

## Why it matters

Party registration is a public record of how voters choose to enrol, published by the state itself. It moves slowly and is a check on survey measures of party identification.

## How to read it

Read changes over time within the state. Registration lags party identification: people rarely change their registration until they need to vote in a primary.

## What it does not say

Only states that register voters by party publish this. Rules differ by state (closed or open primaries, automatic registration, list maintenance), so levels are not comparable across states. List clean-ups can drop the total in a single step.
