Methodology
## What this measures
The total population of Tanzania on 1 July of each year, 1950 to 2023, as estimated by the UN World Population Prospects 2024.
## Why it matters
Population sets the size of every market, labour force and tax base, and its growth is the slowest-moving and most predictable force in an economy.
## How to read it
Each point is the mid-year population, dated July 1. These are estimates through 2023; the UN's projection from 2024 on is a separate series (the same name with "projection"), so this line never mixes measured and projected years.
## What it does not say
It counts people living in the place, whatever their citizenship. Estimates for years without a recent census rest on models and are revised with each WPP revision.
