Population Aged 65 and Over: Argentina
Latest
12.2% of population
Methodology
## What this measures
The share of Argentina's population aged 65 or older on 1 July of each year, in percent. A Palanor calculation from the UN World Population Prospects 2024 population by five-year age group.
## Why it matters
The over-65 share drives pension and health spending and the ratio of workers to retirees. It is the headline number for an ageing society.
## How to read it
Each point is dated July 1. Above 14% a society is usually called "aged", above 21% "super-aged". These are estimates through 2023.
## What it does not say
It does not say how healthy or active older people are, or how many still work.

Palanor's copy is unchanged except where this section says otherwise. Palanor adds the UN's five-year age groups from 65–69 up to 100+ and divides by the total population of the same year; that sum is the only change. The UN revises the whole series every two years; the next revision replaces these figures back to 1950.
