Latest

90.06USD per hour

Methodology

## What this measures

Gross domestic product divided by total hours worked by everyone in employment in Belgium, in US dollars converted at purchasing power parities, at constant prices and constant PPPs (so the series shows real change over time and levels are comparable across countries). Annual from 1995 to 2024.

## Why it matters

Output per hour is the core measure of labor productivity: over long periods it is what lets wages and living standards rise.

## How to read it

Higher means each hour of work produces more. 1995: $72.0; 2024: $90.1. Compare countries in the same year, and growth rates over time. Very high levels in Ireland and Luxembourg reflect multinational profits booked there and cross-border commuters, not only productive work.

## What it does not say

Hours worked are measured differently across countries (surveys versus administrative records), which affects levels more than trends. GDP per hour says nothing about how output is shared.
