Spain — Avg annual hours worked per worker

Methodology
## What this measures
Average annual hours worked per person engaged in production in Spain. The figure represents total hours worked across the economy divided by the number of employed workers.
## Why it matters
Work hours per employee reveal labor-market norms and the intensity of production. A secular decline may signal rising part-time work, stronger leave policies, or productivity gains that permit shorter schedules; a rise can point to economic distress or regulatory shifts. The measure helps distinguish changes in total output driven by employment growth from those driven by longer or shorter individual schedules.
## How to read it
Higher values mean workers spend more hours per year in paid employment; lower values indicate shorter average schedules. Compare across years to track structural shifts in work patterns or against other countries to assess relative labor intensity.
## What it does not say
The figure does not distinguish full-time from part-time roles, does not capture unpaid work, and does not reveal whether hours are rising because of voluntary overtime or economic necessity.
