France — Avg annual hours worked per worker

Latest

1,487.1hours/year

Methodology

## What this measures

Average annual hours worked per person engaged in production in France. The measure comes from Penn World Table 11.0, an academic dataset covering labor productivity across countries.

## Why it matters

Hours worked per worker reflect the intensity of labor use in an economy and shape unit labor costs, staffing needs and competitive dynamics. Long-run shifts signal changes in regulation, norms around work-life balance, or the balance between part-time and full-time employment. Organizations with operations or supply chains in France can use the series to calibrate productivity expectations and compare labor deployment across markets.

## How to read it

A rise means the average worker is putting in more hours each year; a fall means fewer. Compare levels across countries to see where labor deployment is more intensive, or track the series over time to spot structural shifts in working patterns.

## What it does not say

It does not distinguish between full-time and part-time workers, explain why hours are changing, or indicate whether workers are more or less productive per hour.
