France 10-Year Government Bond Yield (Monthly)

Latest

Methodology

## What this measures

The yield on France's government bonds with about ten years to maturity, as a monthly average in percent per year, from the OECD's long-term interest rate series. The Country Strength panel carries the annual average as country.fra.bond_yield_10y; this is the monthly series behind it.

## Why it matters

The 10-year yield is what France's government pays to borrow for a decade. It is also the base for mortgage and corporate bond rates there, and the discount rate applied to its stocks and long-lived investments.

## How to read it

Higher means dearer long-term borrowing. The yield moves with expected policy rates, inflation expectations and the premium investors ask to hold the government's debt. Compare it with the country's own history and with a benchmark: the gap to Germany is the euro-area risk premium, and a widening gap often signals fiscal or political stress.

## What it does not say

It is a monthly average, so moves inside the month are hidden. The OECD takes the figure from national sources, and the bond or basket used differs slightly by country. It is a nominal yield in the local currency, not adjusted for inflation. Palanor does not fill a month the OECD has not published.
