Methodology
## What this measures
The 2-year yield on Japanese government bonds (JGBs), in percent per year, daily, as published by Japan's Ministry of Finance in its JGB interest rate table (constant-maturity yields by term).
## Why it matters
The 2-year JGB yield is the market's read of where the Bank of Japan's policy rate is heading. After decades near zero, its moves are how the end of Japan's ultra-low rates shows up.
## How to read it
Higher means dearer government borrowing at that term. Yields rise when markets expect higher policy rates or inflation, or ask more to hold the debt. Compare with the series' own history, with the other tenors (the curve slope) and with the US Treasury yield of the same term.
## What it does not say
It is the MOF's constant-maturity reading from market quotations, so it can differ slightly from a single benchmark issue. Nominal, not inflation-adjusted. Days the market is closed have no point.
