Methodology

## What this measures

Where **Rolling Recession** sits in its own cycle today, on a 0–1 line: 0 is the first stage (Housing inflection), 1 the last (Sequential resolution). It is the probability-weighted stage of Palanor's daily reading, so a read split between two stages sits between them.

## Stages

1. Housing inflection 2. Goods & manufacturing contraction 3. Freight & transport stress 4. Labor softening 5. Services normalization 6. Sequential resolution

## How it is made

Each day Palanor scores the schema's indicators against a band per stage (the matrix on the schema page) and produces a probability for each stage. Position = Σ p · (stage − 1) ÷ (stages − 1).

## What it does not say

Days when the evidence is too thin to place the schema (coverage below the model's floor) are left empty, not filled. A position is a reading of a framework, not a forecast.

## Why it matters

Rolling recessions unfold in waves across sectors rather than all at once, so timing matters for capital allocation, hiring decisions and supply-chain planning. Knowing which stage the economy occupies tells an organization whether stress is still ahead in its sector or already passing. The signal helps stewards anticipate demand shifts and cost pressures before they arrive in their own accounts.

## How to read it

A rise means the cycle is moving toward later stages; a fall means it is moving back toward earlier ones. Values near stage boundaries indicate the economy is transitioning; values in the middle of a range indicate it is firmly in that stage. Compare readings over weeks to see whether the cycle is advancing, stalling or reversing.

## Source

Palanor publishes this signal daily. It is derived from Palanor's Rolling Recession schema, which scores a set of indicators against stage-specific bands to produce stage probabilities, then weights those probabilities to calculate position.
