Methodology
## What this measures
Gross value added by industry: mining, manufacturing, construction, and electricity, water and gas (ISIC divisions 05–43), as a percentage of gross domestic product, Luxembourg, each year, from the World Bank's World Development Indicators (NV.IND.TOTL.ZS). 1995 to 2025.
## Why it matters
Mining, factories, construction and utilities: the part of output that builds and extracts. Its share rises through industrialization and falls as economies turn to services.
## How to read it
2025: 8.9% of GDP. Agriculture, industry and services together come to a little under 100%: GDP also counts taxes on products less subsidies, which no sector adds.
## What it does not say
Value added is output less inputs bought from other industries, at basic prices, so a sector can matter more for jobs or trade than its share suggests. Country series rest on national accounts of varying quality and base years; a new base year can shift the whole series.
