Methodology
## What this measures
Value added by services: every other private industry and government (GDP less the two above), as a percentage of U.S. gross domestic product, each year, from BEA's GDP by Industry accounts in current dollars. A Palanor calculation on the World Bank's ISIC grouping, so it sits beside the other countries' WDI rows. 1997 to 2025.
## Why it matters
The World Bank’s own U.S. series stops in 2021; BEA’s accounts, which it is built from, are current.
## How to read it
2025: 82.40% of GDP. BEA's industries add up to GDP, so the U.S. agriculture, industry and services shares add to 100, unlike the WDI rows, which leave out taxes on products.
## What it does not say
BEA revises the whole history each September. The ISIC grouping is approximate: BEA’s industries follow NAICS.
