United Kingdom's Share of Foreign-Held U.S. Equities · %

Latest

10.6% of foreign holdings

Methodology

## What this measures

Holdings of U.S. equities attributed to the United Kingdom divided by holdings of all foreign residents, same month, times 100: a Palanor calculation from Treasury TIC data. September 2011 to August 2026.

## Why it matters

A share removes the U.S. market's own rise and fall, so it shows whether a holder is gaining or losing weight among foreign investors.

## How to read it

August 2026: 10.6%.

## What it does not say

TIC attributes holdings to the country where the custodian or the reporting investor sits, not to the ultimate owner, so financial centres (the Cayman Islands, Luxembourg, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Switzerland) stand in for investors elsewhere. Market value, so it moves with U.S. share prices as much as with buying and selling. Includes fund shares and other equity, not only listed stocks. Before 2020 the series is the older Table 1D; Treasury revised the overlapping months, so a small step at January 2020 is possible.
