U.S. Equities Held in British Virgin Islands · USD bn

Latest

239.31$ billions

Methodology

## What this measures

The market value of U.S. corporate stocks and other equity held by residents of the British Virgin Islands, as reported to Treasury's TIC system, in billions of dollars at the end of each month. September 2011 to August 2026.

## Why it matters

British Virgin Islands ranks number 22 among foreign holders of U.S. equities in this record's latest month. Its holdings show how much of the U.S. market's foreign ownership runs through it.

## How to read it

August 2026: $239 billion, 1.0% of all foreign holdings (tic.us_equity_holdings.share.vgb).

## What it does not say

TIC attributes holdings to the country where the custodian or the reporting investor sits, not to the ultimate owner, so financial centres (the Cayman Islands, Luxembourg, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Switzerland) stand in for investors elsewhere. Market value, so it moves with U.S. share prices as much as with buying and selling. Includes fund shares and other equity, not only listed stocks. Before 2020 the series is the older Table 1D; Treasury revised the overlapping months, so a small step at January 2020 is possible.
