Spain · Share of Tourist Nights by Visitors from Abroad (annual)

Latest

64.13% of nights

Methodology

## What this measures

The share of all nights spent at tourist accommodation in Spain during the year by guests who live in another country, in percent. Tourist accommodation means hotels and similar, holiday and other short-stay accommodation, and campsites (NACE I55.1 to I55.3). One value per year, dated December 31.

## Why it matters

It shows how much of a country's tourism is an export. A high share means the sector earns foreign income but also rides on exchange rates, air links and the economies of other countries; a low share means tourism follows the home consumer.

## How to read it

Higher means more of the nights come from abroad. Compare across years for a shift in the visitor mix, and across countries in the same year.

## What it does not say

It counts nights, not spending: a foreign guest and a domestic guest weigh the same. It covers rented accommodation only.
