Zambia Copper Exports (USD Billions)

Latest

10.12USD billions

Methodology

## What this measures

The value of Zambia's copper exports in US dollars: copper ores and concentrates (HS 2603) plus copper and copper articles (HS chapter 74), annual, billions.

## Why it matters

Copper is Zambia's main source of foreign currency and of government revenue, so this is the money behind the kwacha and the budget.

## How to read it

Read it beside the copper price to separate price from volume, and beside Zambia's copper share of exports (trade.copper.export_share.zmb).

## What it does not say

It is in current dollars, not adjusted for inflation. It does not show what Zambia earns after costs, or who owns the mines.

## Source

CEPII BACI, HS 1992 version (cepii.fr). BACI reconciles the exports and imports countries report to UN Comtrade into one value per trade flow. Source: CEPII BACI (Gaulier and Zignago, 2010), used under the Etalab 2.0 open licence, which allows commercial reuse with attribution. Palanor computes the shares; CEPII does not publish them. CEPII releases a new version each January, covering trade through two years earlier.
