U.S. Chipmaking Equipment Imports From Taiwan, 12 Months

Latest

0.63$ billions

Methodology

## What this measures

U.S. imports of HS 8486 from Taiwan, summed over the twelve months to each month, in billions of current dollars. The first value is December 2013 (twelve months from January 2013).

## Why it matters

The twelve-month total ranks partners without the noise of single months and shows where the chip supply chain runs: where chips are made, where they are packaged and tested, and where the machines that make them come from.

## How to read it

Compare partners at the same month. Imports are by country of origin: where the chip was made, or where it was packaged and tested if that changed it substantially, which can differ from where the wafer was made.

## What it does not say

Packaged chips only; chips inside finished products are not counted. A partner missing from a month traded nothing that month in the Census data (zeros are omitted). Nominal dollars.
