US Treasury General Account Balance

Methodology

## What this measures

The closing balance of the **Treasury General Account** — the federal government's checking account at the Federal Reserve, in billions of dollars.

## Why it matters

The TGA is a real lever on system liquidity. When Treasury *draws down* the TGA (spending faster than it raises), cash flows into bank reserves — a quiet tailwind for risk assets. When it *rebuilds* the balance (post-debt-ceiling, quarterly refunding), it drains reserves. Stewards watch the TGA around debt-ceiling resolutions and refunding dates for liquidity inflection.
