UK Mortgage Approvals for House Purchase
Latest
54,918approvals per month
Methodology
## What this measures
How many mortgages UK lenders approved for house purchases in the month.
## Why it matters
Approvals come before completed sales, so they lead the housing market by a couple of months.
## How to read it
About 65,000 a month was the pre-pandemic norm; well below that signals a weak housing market.
## What it does not say
An approval is not a completed loan, and it excludes remortgaging.
