Methodology
## What this measures
The 12-month change in the UK Consumer Prices Index: headline inflation.
## Why it matters
It is the measure the Bank of England targets at 2%.
## How to read it
Above 3% triggers an open letter from the Governor to the Chancellor. Compare with core and services inflation to see what is driving it.
## What it does not say
It excludes owner-occupiers' housing costs (CPIH includes them).
