Company Insolvencies (England and Wales)

Latest

1,882insolvencies per month

Methodology

## What this measures

The number of registered companies in England and Wales that entered liquidation, administration or a company voluntary arrangement in the month.

## Why it matters

Company failures rose as pandemic support ended and rates climbed: 2023 had the most of any year in this series, which starts in 2000, above 2009.

## How to read it

Compare with a year earlier. Creditors' voluntary liquidations (directors closing a company) make up most of the total.

## What it does not say

It covers England and Wales only and counts companies, not the jobs or debts involved.

## Source

Insolvency Service (GOV.UK official statistics), monthly company insolvency statistics, England and Wales, seasonally adjusted, from the long-run series CSV of the latest release. Palanor re-reads the latest release every day.
