Individual Insolvencies (England and Wales)

Latest

11,894insolvencies per month

Methodology

## What this measures

The number of people in England and Wales who entered bankruptcy, a debt relief order or an individual voluntary arrangement in the month.

## Why it matters

It is the hard end of household financial stress.

## How to read it

Compare with a year earlier. IVAs are most of the total, and their numbers are driven partly by debt-advice firms, so read changes with that in mind.

## What it does not say

It covers England and Wales only and excludes informal debt management plans.
