U.S. Household Net Worth: 90th–99th Percentile
Latest
67.63USD trillions
Methodology
## What this measures
The combined net worth (assets less debts) of households between the 90th and 99th percentiles, in trillions of current dollars. Quarterly since 1989 Q3. A group total, not wealth per household.
## Why it matters
Levels show how many dollars each group gained, which shares can hide: a group whose share is flat still gains trillions when total wealth rises. The charts read cumulative change since 2014 and since 2019 Q4.
## How to read it
Compare changes since the same quarter across groups. Each group has a fixed share of households (the top 0.1% is a thousandth of them, the bottom 50% half), so a dollar gain means very different amounts per household.
## What it does not say
The DFA spread the Financial Accounts totals across households using the triennial Survey of Consumer Finances, so groups between survey years are modelled, not surveyed, and the newest quarters are revised. Wealth is at market value, before tax, nominal (not adjusted for inflation). The DFA publish millions of dollars; Palanor divides by a million. The whole history is republished with each quarterly Z.1 release.
