China stock market value
Latest
15.51USD trillions
Methodology
## What this measures
Market capitalization of domestic companies listed on China's stock exchanges at year end, in US dollars. It reflects the total value investors assign to equity traded in mainland China.
## Background
Market capitalization of China-listed domestic companies at year end, $ trillions.
World Federation of Exchanges data via the World Bank (CM.MKT.LCAP.CD), current US dollars. Annual.
## Why it matters
The size of China's domestic equity market signals the depth of capital available for Chinese firms and the confidence of investors in the country's companies. A growing market suggests expanding opportunities for cross-border investment, supplier relationships, and competitive pressure from well-funded Chinese rivals. Contraction may point to regulatory uncertainty or capital leaving the market.
## How to read it
Rising values indicate more capital flowing into Chinese equities or higher valuations for listed firms. Falling values suggest investor retreat, delistings, or currency depreciation. Compare year-over-year changes to judge momentum, or benchmark against other major markets to assess China's relative weight in global portfolios.
## What it does not say
It does not reveal which sectors dominate the market, the performance of individual stocks, or whether valuations are high or low by historical standards. State ownership, trading restrictions, and the exclusion of offshore-listed Chinese firms limit its use as a measure of total Chinese corporate value.
