Wheat Yields in Canada and the United States Over a Century
Average wheat yield, all classes, bushels per acre harvested, yearly
Plays the chart through its history. Pauses are where the data set a record or moved most.
Canada: Statistics Canada, table 32-10-0359. United States: USDA NASS survey estimates. The newest year is an early estimate in both countries and is revised. Dips are mostly drought years.
More than a century of wheat harvests per acre in the two big North American growers. Yields stayed flat for decades, then rose with fertilizer, new varieties and machinery after the Second World War. The single-year dips are drought: the 1930s Dust Bowl, 1988, and 2021 on the Canadian Prairies.
