Texas: Load Asking to Connect vs Generation Asking to Connect
Large loads ERCOT is tracking and generation capacity in its interconnection queue, gigawatts
Plays the chart through its history. Pauses are where the data set a record or moved most.
ERCOT large-load queue updates, Board updates and Monthly Operational Overviews (large loads, read by hand from each document); ERCOT Generator Interconnection Status reports (generation). Both are requests, and most will not be built. ERCOT says data centers make up most of the large loads.
For most of the grid’s history new generation led new demand. In Texas the requests to plug in large loads, mostly data centers, have overtaken the generation waiting to connect.
