Plays the chart through its history. Pauses are where the data set a record or moved most.

U.S. Treasury International Capital data. Holdings are attributed to the country where the custodian or investor reporting them sits, so financial centres such as the Cayman Islands, Luxembourg and Ireland stand in for investors elsewhere. Market value: holdings rise and fall with U.S. share prices. Official institutions are split out only from 2020. Before 2020 the total comes from Treasury’s former Table 1D history.

How much of the U.S. stock market foreign investors own, month by month, and how much of it sits with central banks and sovereign funds.
