What Medicaid Pays For
Medicaid benefit spending by service category, $ billions, latest fiscal year
MACPAC, MACStats data book (from CMS-64 state expenditure reports), federal fiscal years. Each edition revises earlier years; the newest edition is used where they overlap. Managed care is the capitation payments states make to health plans, which then pay hospitals, doctors and others, so the other categories cover fee-for-service spending only.
