SBIR and STTR Award Dollars by Agency
Small Business Innovation Research and Technology Transfer awards by awarding agency, $ millions, federal fiscal years
Plays the chart through its history. Pauses are where the data set a record or moved most.
U.S. Small Business Administration, SBIR.gov award data. Federal fiscal years (October to September), current dollars. Agencies upload awards with a lag, and program authority lapsed from October 2025 to April 2026, so the newest fiscal year is thin. Smaller programs (EPA, Commerce, Education, Transportation, Homeland Security) are left out of the bars.
Where the federal government’s seed money for small technology companies comes from. Defense and health research agencies make most SBIR and STTR awards; each bar is one fiscal year.
