Calculated by Palanor: each company’s closing price × its current share count, from licensed closing prices and SEC filings, summed by GICS sector over today’s S&P 500 members. Applying today’s members and sectors to past dates leaves out companies that have since left the index (survivorship bias). Not S&P Dow Jones Indices’ official, float-adjusted sector weights.
How the value of today’s S&P 500 companies divides among the eleven sectors, month by month. Information Technology is the largest; a rising band means that sector’s stocks did better than the rest of the index.
