Plays the chart through its history. Pauses are where the data set a record or moved most.

Environment and Climate Change Canada, National Inventory Report (Open Government Licence – Canada). Grams of CO2 equivalent per kWh generated by public power producers; the newest year is preliminary. Power imported from a neighbour counts where it was made. From 2005: the tables publish 2005, 2010, 2015 and each year since 2019, so the lines join those years.

The provinces whose grids burned the most coal, with Ontario and the national total for reference. Ontario's line fell when it closed its coal plants and has risen since 2019 as gas fills in; Alberta's has fallen steadily as coal gave way to gas.
