Child Poverty Against Overall Poverty in OECD Countries
Relative poverty rate for children under 18 (vertical) and for the whole population (horizontal), latest year, %
Plays the chart through its history, period by period.
OECD Income Distribution Database (CC BY 4.0). Poverty line: half the national median disposable income, after taxes and transfers. Countries above an imaginary diagonal have more child poverty than poverty overall. The latest year differs by country.
Whether children are more or less likely to be poor than people overall, country by country. In most OECD countries the child rate is the higher of the two. In the Nordic and Baltic countries, Germany, Japan and South Korea, among others, children are less exposed than the population as a whole.
