Treasury International Capital (TIC) data. The United Kingdom figure includes Treasuries held in London custody for investors elsewhere. Annual benchmark surveys re-base the series, which can move a level in a single month.
Three of the largest foreign holders of U.S. debt, month by month. China built its holdings through the 2000s and has run them down since the mid-2010s, while Japan’s and the United Kingdom’s holdings grew.
