Plays the chart through its history, period by period.

World Bank, World Development Indicators (CC BY 4.0): gross value added by sector as a share of GDP. The U.S. shares are Palanor’s calculation from BEA GDP by Industry, because the World Bank’s U.S. series stops in 2021. Mining, construction and utilities is industry less manufacturing, and taxes less subsidies on products is the part of GDP no sector adds (with statistical adjustments); both are Palanor’s arithmetic on the World Bank shares. Each rectangle is its share’s latest published year, so they can differ by a year.

The whole world economy in one picture: services are well over half of global output, manufacturing about a seventh, farming a few percent. The split comes from national accounts gathered by the World Bank and updates each year.
